Our Sunday School curriculum uses The Story for Little Ones: Discover the Bible in Pictures.  This week’s lesson was on Joshua and Caleb’s journey into the promised land to explore. This is the preschool activity we did to correspond to the lesson.

The Story
Joshua and Caleb were spies sent by Moses into the promised land to see what it was like.  While they were there, they found that the land had an abundance of food.  The story in the Bible states that they returned with grapes so big it took two men to carry them.  There were also reports of giants in the land, leading many of the people to resist going.  However, Joshua and Caleb believed that God was powerful and would protect them.  This belief in God’s promise allowed them to enter the Promised Land when they were older.

The Activity
To prepare for our Joshua and Caleb Bible project, Bear and I dyed cotton balls purple to symbolize grapes.  In hindsight, I think that purple craft pom poms would have been a much easier supply to use.  I cut our leaves from green paper and a grape cluster shape from white paper.

To glue the “grape” cotton balls down, the children used purple glue.  On each project we make, the touchpoint from the lesson is included {which you can see below}.

  1. Purple pom poms would have been easier, but I bet Bear enjoyed the mess of dying the cotton balls 🙂
